Pip value calculator for forex and gold (XAUUSD)

Value of 1 pip: –

Pick a pair, enter your lot size, and the calculator shows how much your account gains or loses for every pip the price moves. For JPY, CHF and CAD pairs and for crosses it asks for the price or rate needed to convert to USD.

Pip value formula

Pip value = pip size × contract size × lots, converted to your account currency

Examples

Instrument Size Value of 1 pip
EURUSD 1 lot 10 USD
EURUSD 0.1 lot 1 USD
EURUSD 0.01 lot 0.10 USD
USDJPY (price 150.00) 1 lot 1,000 JPY ÷ 150 ≈ 6.67 USD
XAUUSD 1 lot 10 USD (a 1 USD move in gold = 100 USD)
XAUUSD 0.01 lot 0.10 USD (a 1 USD move in gold = 1 USD)

For USDJPY the pip value changes with the price: the higher the price, the fewer dollars each pip is worth. That is why the calculator asks for the current price.

What to do with this number

Pip value turns “a 30-pip stop” into real money: 0.1 lot of EURUSD with a 30-pip stop risks about 3 USD. To go the other way, choosing a size that risks exactly 1–2% of your account, use the position size calculator.

FAQ

How much is 1 pip on EURUSD?

On 1 lot (100,000 units) one EURUSD pip is worth 10 USD. On 0.1 lot it is 1 USD and on 0.01 lot 0.10 USD. The same holds for every pair quoted in USD, such as GBPUSD, AUDUSD and NZDUSD.

How much is 1 pip on gold (XAUUSD)?

This calculator treats one gold pip as a 0.10 USD price move. On 1 lot (100 ounces) that is 10 USD per pip, and a 1 USD move in gold is 100 USD. Brokers and traders define a gold pip differently, so think in "how many dollars did gold move" to be sure.

What is the difference between a pip and a point?

On MT4/MT5 with 5-digit prices (for example 1.10005), one point is the last digit and equals one tenth of a pip. A spread of "10 points" is 1 pip.

How does it work on a cent account?

The calculator assumes 1 lot on a cent account equals 0.01 standard lot and balances are in USC (1 USD = 100 USC). The pip value then shows the same number as on a standard account, in USC. Check your broker's contract specifications.
